420 States
Congratulations to all 22 competitors at this years NSW 420 States. Congratulations to Male State champions Spencer and Benedict McKay, Female State champions Hanako Tomishima and Grace Morrow who were also third place overall, as well as second place overall Will Wilkinson and Ethan Lozevski! Thanks again to all volunteers who helped out with race management, our hosts @woollahrasailing and all families who made this weekend possible with some travelling all the way from Melbourne! Lastly a big thank you to sponsors North Sails who provided prizes for our competitors.

Sydneys weather threw a bit of everything at our sailors. Day one saw stormy, southerly conditions with the fleet experiencing 16-18 knots throughout the afternoon. Four races were completed and it was the McKay brothers, Spencer and Benedict, who revelled in the conditions, winning the first three races and taking a second in the final race of the day. However, racing was tight throughout the afternoon, as Hanako Tomishima and Grace Morrow kept the boys honest, scoring two seconds and a third. 420 new-comer, Will Wilkinson, teamed up with 420 veteran Ethan Lozevski, to compete in his first 420 regatta and came through to win the final race of the day, having bagged a second and a couple of thirds in the earlier races.

Day two of the regatta saw Sydney Harbour shining at its finest for our interstate visitors, and the contrasting blue skies and light 5-8 knot breezes challenged the fleet. Three races were completed as the breeze dropped away and then swung around from a light westerly to the north-east in the final race of the day. The McKay brothers came away with wins in the first two races, but it was Isaac Freeman and Austin Cross who were the most improved in the first race, taking the second place. As the breeze died and swung around in the final race of the day, it was the team of Tomishima and Morrow who sailed the most tactical race, picking the shifts and winning the final race of the regatta.

Final results saw Spencer and Benedict McKay take the NSW Male title with 7 points, Will Wilkinson and Ethan Lozevski in second place overall with 13 points, and third place and NSW Female Champions were Hanako Tomishima and Grace Morrow on 15 points.

The NSW 420 Committee and the competitors would like to thank sponsors, North Sails for their generous support of the regatta, and Woollahra Sailing Club for their work in running the event. A special thanks to our interstate visitors who joined us for the regatta, surviving the sea planes and ferries that are so foreign to them!
